Meet the founder

Talo Ciccarello

I'm Talo Ciccarello from East Haddam, CT. During my time at Nathan Hale-Ray High School, I scored over 1,000 career points and earned All-State honors while averaging 25 points per game as a senior. In my junior year, I joined the cross country team and helped lead them to their first state championship in years, also earning All-State recognition.

I reached my goal of playing college basketball at Gordon College (Division III). While my college career didn't unfold exactly as I'd hoped, those experiences taught me invaluable lessons about resilience, hard work, and what it truly takes to succeed at the next level. Now, my mission is to use everything I've learned both from my successes and setbacks to help athletes achieve their goals.

I'm constantly learning: studying the game, engaging with research, and testing new ideas to better understand how athletes develop skills, confidence, and decision-making. That's the real journey and it's one I'm honored to guide.

Our Philosophy

The Journey
Defined

At The Hoop Journey, we believe growth isn't linear. Every athlete will experience success, failure, confidence, doubt, breakthroughs, and setbacks. Those moments aren't obstacles to the journey—they are the journey. Our philosophy is rooted in embracing the process of becoming. Basketball is the tool, but the lessons extend far beyond the court. We believe lasting development comes from showing up consistently, learning from mistakes, trusting the process, and choosing progress over perfection. The goal isn't simply to create better basketball players. It's to develop resilient, disciplined athletes who understand that growth comes through the ups and downs—not around them. Because the process is the purpose, and every step forward is part of the journey of becoming.

Our Approach

Growth takes time, and mistakes are an essential part of the learning process. At The Hoop Journey, we encourage athletes to challenge themselves, even if it means making mistakes along the way. Those moments aren't failures—they're opportunities to learn, adapt, and improve.

Our role as coaches is to provide the right environment, guidance, and feedback so athletes can develop confidence, make better decisions, and build skills that transfer to real game situations. By embracing the process instead of fearing mistakes, athletes create lasting improvement both on and off the court.
